Yo La Tengo 2014 WFMU All-Request Marathon Set List
Feb 26, 2014, 9pm to 12 midnight
Co-Hosts: Evan “Funk” Davies & Gaylord Fields

As in past years, I once kept score at home again this year as Yo La Tengo performed their 18th annual all-request Marathon to raise money for WFMU.   I was selfishly pleased that--unlike last year--WFMU did not post a running playlist on Evan "Funk" Davies's regular WFMU playlist page in real time while the band was performing.  I always think that part of the fun of listening to these broadcasts is making the effort to i.d. all the songs in real time, without a safety net!  Plus, I like the glory of being the guy who keeps score at home then shares the playlist.   Which is now, once again, mine.  As always, YLT stumped me with a handful of the shout-outs and quotations, but the list below has been corrected by Ira Kaplan and Bruce Bennett and thus should now be authoritative.

Iggy & The Stooges - No Fun

Yo La Tengo 2013 WFMU All-Request Marathon Set List

As in past years, I once kept score at home again this year as Yo La Tengo performed their 17th annual all-request Marathon to raise money for WFMU.   This time out, the format was the same as usual but there were a few twists.  Notably, for the first time ever, YLT did not make it down to WFMU's Jersey City studios for the broadcast.  Instead, they performed live from Berlin, Germany--apparently from a studio associated with Calexico.   While this change was necessitated by the band's presence in Germany this week, unbelievably YLT's auxilliary WFMU-Marathon member Bruce Bennett (who was *not* touring with the band in Germany) flew across the pond just to make this performance.   Another difference this year--related to the first--was that because the band was in Europe, this year's show aired at 9am US eastern time (on a workday), not on the traditional Friday night or Saturday.   That's okay, though:  the thousands of hours of shirking-on-the-job that took place in workplaces across the eastern USA this morning was certainly fair payback to all the rat bastard employers who exploit their overworked employees every other day of the year.

Another change this year that I selfishly did not like was that this year--for the first time ever--WFMU posted a running playlist on Faye’s regular WFMU playlist page in real time while the band was performing.  I always think that part of the fun of listening to these broadcasts is making the effort to i.d. all the songs in real time, without a safety net!  Plus, I like the glory of being the guy who keeps score at home, then shares the playlist.   But since not even Gaylord Fields was bold enough to attempt to i.d. the songs that YLT played during this year's action-packed closing medley, I hope my playlist (below) nonetheless adds some value.   As always, YLT stumped me with a few of the shout-outs and quotations, so the list below includes a few guesses or fragments of things I thought I heard. I would welcome any corrections or omissions!
